Why does the EIU Languages Center (ELC) offer “Study One-on-One” course?

There are many worries when learners enter the journey of learning English. One of them is not having time because of being too busy with school schedules, work, life; some students need to focus on studying English in a short time to get English certificates, travel, study abroad, specialized jobs that require more complicated English…; or simply learners want to get the best and most effective learning results.

For traditional English classes, learners will not be able to choose a curriculum that is a perfect fit for themselves, everything is relative. Because of the number of participants in a class, teachers cannot specialize teaching for each learner in accordance with their expectations.

In classes with 10 – 15 students, sometimes students feel that the time to directly receive dedicated instruction from teachers is not enough. In addition, participants in the class have different ages that make difficult communication between class members sometimes. The openness may be narrowed, making the classroom atmosphere uncomfortable, which is also the reason why learning English is not effective. Therefore, study One-on-One course was born to fully meet the needs of learners.

HIGHLIGHT OF STUDY ONE-ON-ONE COURSE

One-on-One class has only 1 teacher – 1 student. 100% foreign teachers with international English teaching experience and qualifications. The learning program is tailored to each individual’s needs, designed and adjusted according to the student’s learning progress and competencies, ensure that students develop their strengths and improve the skills they want to acquire.

Study One-on-One program is 40-50% more effective than regular classes because learners can directly interact and receive maximum support from teachers.

Step 1: Contact EIU Language Center

Students contact the Center to exchange learning objectives, curriculum, study pathways, shedule and tuition. Before each course, the Teacher will outline the specific study path to accurately determine:

What will be the goal of learning English?
How long will it take to complete the learning?
What is the optimal method to accomplish that goal?
How much will the implementation plan expense?

Step 2: Placement test

Before designing a specific curriculum, students need to register for a placement test. The test consists of listening, reading, writing and speaking skills with foreign teachers, with a duration of about 1 hour and 40 minutes. This test will indicate the learners’ current level of English. Placement results will be valid for 6 months.

Step 3: Register the course

After arranging the schedule and agreeing to the curriculum, learners are allowed to register and complete the tuition before starting the class.

STUDY ONE-ON-ONE AT EIU LANGUAGE CENTER

General English Program is an English language training program for participants aged 15 years and over, from Beginner to Advanced level (including 6 levels), which is the stepping stone to reach certain educational and career targets such as studying abroad, applying for a scholarship, taking English language examinations, getting a job or laying a foundation for international English language assessment such as IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC.

The program is designed to provide learners with an understanding of Academic English and a mastery of the skills required in the exam in order to achieve the best IELTS results. Accurately assessing a learners ‘s current ability will help determine a reasonable and effective exam preparation strategy.

The course does not only improve learners’ English skills, but also actually teach them strategies for preparing for the exam. Staying close to the real tests so that you can assess and test your ability before registering for the official IELTS exam. English for Teens program is an English training program for pre-teens and teens aged 11 to 14, from Beginner to Advanced level (including 7 levels). The program has been designed to be age and level appropriate in order for students to acquire language effectively, has a strong emphasis on listening, reading, writing, speaking and vocabulary development to ensure students are able to communicate confidently inside and outside the classroom as well as study abroad, obtain scholarships, take English exams, apply for jobs and create a premise to study for international certificates such as IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC.

In this course, students are provided with an enhanced communication practice environment through simulations of real-life situations and the development of critical thinking. In addition to the language content, the curriculum also promotes the development of human values such as environmental protection, cultural and national values, empathy between people and world peace.

The course is designed for participants from Elementary level and above (evaluated through a Placement test). The program meets the needs of learners who wish to specialize in both Listening and Speaking skills. It is suitable for those working in a communication-intensive environment in English with topics such as social, tourism, study and work.

The curriculum at ELC has been specially developed to help participants improve their listening and speaking skills, gradually improve their pronunciation skills. Studying time is equally divided between Language Input sessions in the first half of each lesson wherein students become familiar with sentence patterns, vocabulary and idioms. In the second half, known as the Practice session, students have the opportunity to practice the language they have been taught and receive feedback from the teacher and peers.

At the same time, extensive practice of pronunciation skills affords learners the opportunity to develop correct intonation, rhythm, stress, connected speech patterns, and improve their standard English pronunciation skills.

The course is designed for participants from Pre-Intermediate level and above, who need to improve English proficiency in business and commercial environments, thereby improving work efficiency. The curriculum includes the following:

Business Writing (emails/reports/memos/newsletters) – 20 hours
Negotiate, persuade, problem-solve – 20 hours
Soft Skills Training/Presentations/Meetings/Telephoning – 20 hours
Pronunciation – 20 hours

Businesses can combine two or three skills (40 or 60-hour course)
