Unlike textbooks, EIU Language Center’s English for Corporations program does NOT expect course participants to progress at a uniform rate. We will not say to you: in 100 hours your participants will move from Pre-Intermediate to Intermediate level. Instead we will work with your people to ensure they progress as fast they can.

We know from experience that many communication issues derive from the inability to produce clear intelligible speech, so a strong focus on pronunciation is the basis of all our courses. All of our courses focus on problem sounds which cause difficulty to the listener, and on producing more natural speech patterns in context. To limit misunderstandings, we also train participants not only on technical vocabulary and functional language, but also active listening skills that enable participants to check understanding, clarify and reformulate with confidence. Step 2 Discuss: An appointment will be set up to clarify business needs and to establish the most appropriate course(s).

Step 3  Diagnostic: We will undertake an employee diagnostic test to evaluate and confirm language needs.

Step 4  Finalize curriculum: Based on the diagnostic test results, we send a preliminary curriculum to you to check and adjust before finalizing.

Step 5  Sign contract: Training schedule, materials used, trainer transportation costs, payment methods and contract are agreed in this step.

Step 6 – Training: With your cooperation, we implement your customized course with a focus on task competence and continuous learning, giving ownership of learning to your employees.

Step 7  Feedback and course evaluation: You may choose from a variety of feedback methods:

  1. Tests that reflect actual work done.
  2. Graded ‘assessment portfolio’ which collates written work done in session, and spoken assignments.
  3. Receive verbal feedback on an ad hoc basis.
  4. Written feedback on each participant can be provided.

ENGLISH FOR CORPORATION PROGRAM AT EIU LANGUAGE CENTER

General English Program is an English language training program for participants aged 15 years and over, from Beginner to Advanced level (including 6 levels), which is the stepping stone to reach certain educational and career targets such as studying abroad, applying for a scholarship, taking English language examinations, getting a job or laying a foundation for international English language assessment such as IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC.

The program is designed to provide learners with an understanding of Academic English and a mastery of the skills required in the exam in order to achieve the best IELTS results. Accurately assessing a learners ‘s current ability will help determine a reasonable and effective exam preparation strategy.

The course does not only improve learners’ English skills, but also actually teach them strategies for preparing for the exam. Staying close to the real tests so that you can assess and test your ability before registering for the official IELTS exam. Improve learners’ knowledge of more complex vocabulary by using a variety of interesting topics in IELTS. The topics are diverse, often appearing in the actual IELTS test.

The course is designed for participants from Elementary level and above (evaluated through a Placement test). The program meets the needs of learners who wish to specialize in both Listening and Speaking skills. It is suitable for those working in a communication-intensive environment in English with topics such as social, tourism, study and work.

The curriculum at ELC has been specially developed to help participants improve their listening and speaking skills, gradually improve their pronunciation skills. Studying time is equally divided between Language Input sessions in the first half of each lesson wherein students become familiar with sentence patterns, vocabulary and idioms.  In the second half, known as the Practice session, students have the opportunity to practice the language they have been taught and receive feedback from the teacher and peers.

At the same time, extensive practice of pronunciation skills affords learners the opportunity to develop correct intonation, rhythm, stress, connected speech patterns, and improve their standard English pronunciation skills.

The course is designed for participants from Pre-Intermediate level and above, who need to improve English proficiency in business and commercial environments, thereby improving work efficiency. The curriculum includes the following:

  • Business Writing (emails/reports/memos/newsletters) – 20 hours
  • Negotiate, persuade, problem-solve – 20 hours
  • Soft Skills Training/Presentations/Meetings/Telephoning – 20 hours
  • Pronunciation – 20 hours

Businesses can combine two or three skills (40 or 60-hour course)

Studying commercial English skills will help learners quickly acquire the essential language knowledge and skills, help expand their business English vocabulary, strengthen and promote their ability to use complex English in reading and writing, create confidence in communication in the workplace and in society for learners based on accurate listening and speaking, fluency in all circumstances, improve pronunciation in all situations.
